Church family,

We want to invite you to pray this week for Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Over the weekend, a large-scale government operation to arrest a cartel leader triggered coordinated retaliation across the country. In dozens of cities across more than 20 states, fires were set and violence disrupted daily life. Puerto Vallarta was among the cities deeply affected.

Luis and Rachael Santillán are longtime members of Central Vineyard and have faithfully served on our Leadership Team for years. Puerto Vallarta is Luis’ hometown, and much of their family still lives there.

Luis wrote the note below to help us understand a bit of what happened and how we can pray.

Dearest CV,

As many of you know, I am from Mexico, and my family currently lives in Puerto Vallarta. Over the weekend, there was a large-scale operation in the state to arrest a drug cartel leader. Although he was taken into custody, he later died as a result of the operation.

In retaliation, the cartel carried out coordinated attacks across the country. In dozens of cities across more than 20 states, they set fires and destroyed anything in their path. The city where my family lives has been deeply impacted.

My family and the church they serve are safe and out of harm’s way. However, during the attacks they were forced to shelter in place:

• My parents were stranded at the church from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
• My sister was stuck at work from early morning until 11:00 p.m.
• My niece and nephews were home alone for several hours.

This was the first attack of this scale in the country, and it has significantly disrupted daily life in their city.

Please pray for the restoration of the city, for essential supplies to be replenished, for continued safety, and for comfort and peace for those who lost loved ones.

Thank you so much for your prayers and support.

With gratitude,
The Santilláns
(Rachael, Rio, & L)

Take a few minutes this week and bring Puerto Vallarta before the Lord by name. Pray in your homes, in your Central Communities. We are asking God to bring peace where there has been fear, provision where there has been disruption, and comfort where there has been loss.
